Ex-AANLA cadre arrested in Bokajan

JORHAT, May 4: A team of the Mariani police under Titabar subdivision of Jorhat district has arrested a former cadre of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) from Khatkhati in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district.

The accused has been identified as Pradip Siddhu alias Nanu Paajji, a resident of Mariani. He was picked up by the police in connection with a murder case in Mariani.

According to police sources, Siddhu was wanted for strangulation and murder of Shambhu Valmiki, a resident of Ambedkar Colony in Mariani. The body with injury marks had been reportedly recovered from the Kuccha at Hatigara Grant in Dhekiajuli Tea Estate in Mariani on May 3.

Strangulation marks were seen around the neck of the deceased and the right eye was swollen. There were bruises all over the body, more on the backside.

The police was assisted by the SDPO Bokajan (Karbi Anglong).

During investigation the brother of the deceased informed that Shambhu had reportedly gone to a party hosted by Siddhu on the night of May 2. Till 10 pm, the deceased was with him.  Pradip’s minor son admitted that his father had killed the victim that night by strangulation and thrown away the body.

Teams from CID and forensic laboratory are assisting the local in the investigations.
