HAFLONG, Feb 25: In a significant development for rail commuters of Haflong and the wider Dima Hasao district, several important express trains will now halt at Lanka railway station, bringing long-awaited convenience to passengers of the hill region.
According to railway sources, stoppages of key trains—including Train No 15625 Deoghar–Agartala Express and Train No 15611 Rangiya–Silchar Express, have been approved. Additionally, the Sealdah–Silchar Express (Train No 13175) will also stop at Lanka, benefiting passengers traveling between Barak Valley and other parts of the country.
The much-demanded stoppage of the Kanchanjungha Express (Train No 13176 Silchar–Sealdah) at Lanka is scheduled to come into effect from February 26. Railway officials confirmed that Train No 15612 Silchar–Rangiya Express and Train Nos 15615/15616 Lalgarh–Dibrugarh Avadh Assam Express will also halt at the station.
Further improvements include a stoppage for Train No 15927 Rangiya–New Tinsukia Express at Jamunamukh and an additional halt for the Agartala–Deoghar Express at Hojai.
Railway passenger welfare representatives have welcomed the move. Soumen Kumar Bhattacharya, General Secretary of the NF Railway Passenger Welfare Association Central Committee, noted that the Avadh Assam Express stoppage came after a 12-year struggle, while the Silchar–Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express and Silchar–Rangiya Express stoppages were achieved after seven years of sustained demand.
