JORHAT, May 15: The boat services, both passenger and goods, between Majuli and Jorhat have been suspended from Sunday in view of rising water levels of the river. Jorhat additional deputy commissioner Damodar Barman, who is also the nodal officer of District Disaster Management Authority, informed that due to rising water levels, heavy currents and floating of logs and other materials, the ferry services between the Brahmaputra island and Jorhat had been stopped until further notice.
The additional deputy commissioner also directed the concerned officials to coordinate with AMTRON for initiating refund of cancelled boat tickets booked online by passengers.
Meanwhile, the Majuli district administration has directed the ASTC station in-charge of Majuli to provide bus services from the Brahmaputra island to Jorhat via Dibrugarh district in view of suspension of boat services between Jorhat-Majuli.
A district administration official informed that an order in this regard was issued by the Majuli deputy commissioner (in-charge) on Sunday.
A district administration source stated that from the evening on Sunday the bus service has been initiated from Majuli and from Monday morning bus service to the Brahmaputra island from Jorhat will be available.
