KHERONI, May 15:Â Due to incessant rain in the last several days, the water level of Kopili River has risen and has submerged its banks and flooded a large area in West Karbi Anglong.
The river water has completely inundated Das Basti in Kheroni. Sugarcane, vegetables and other crops went underwater. A deer which was washed away by the floodwater was rescued by villagers of Menmeji Mukhim.
The adjacent area of Hojai-West Karbi Anglong district is also among the worst flooded areas. People from the Athaiso and Mandali area are taking shelter in embankments along with their cattle. Meanwhile, the people are ruing that the authority has not made any arrangements for them. The villagers want tents for shelter and food and to rescue those stranded.
