Fulbright outreach session at Nowgong College (Autonomous)

NAGAON, April 10: A Fulbright outreach session was jointly organised by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), the Fulbright Commission in India, the Department of Chemistry, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nowgong College (Autonomous), Nagaon.

The event aimed to raise awareness about Fulbright fellowship opportunities available to Indian citizens and promote academic and cultural exchange between India and the United States.

Jhulan Ghose, Program Manager at the USIEF Kolkata Regional Office, graced the occasion as the resource person.

In her insightful address, she highlighted various Fulbright opportunities open to Indian scholars, professionals, and students, sharing essential tips for crafting successful Fulbright applications.

The session was chaired by Dr Pulin Chandra Borah, Principal (In-charge) of Nowgong College, who delivered the welcome address to participants from various colleges across Nagaon.

In his remarks, Dr Borah emphasised the importance of such collaborative academic platforms in fostering intellectual growth and global engagement.

Dr Parikshit Gogoi, assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at Nowgong College and a 2023–24 Fulbright Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign initiated the proceedings of the session.

In his address, Dr Gogoi stated, “We are truly honoured to host such a meaningful gathering that brings together faculty members from various institutions and bright, aspiring students from our region.”

Dr Bhuban Chandra Chutia, Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), also addressed the audience, offering insights into the academic journey and milestones of Nowgong College since its inception.

Ghose reiterated that the Fulbright Program’s mission as a global symbol of academic excellence, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between nations.

“Today’s session aims not only to inform but to inspire, especially our young minds to dream big, seek global opportunities, and engage in academic collaboration between India and the United States,” she said.

The vote of thanks was offered by Dr Lakhya Jyoti Borthakur, Head of the Department of Chemistry at Nowgong College (Autonomous), who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Fulbright Commission in India for facilitating such an enriching and impactful session.
