DIPHU, July 6: BJP-East Karbi Anglong District Committee (BJP-EKADC) organised a victory rally at Diphu Govt. Boys HS School playground on Wednesday, to express gratitude to the people of Karbi Anglong for putting their faith on BJP and allowing the party to win in all the 26 Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) seats of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the election which was held on June 8 in both 6th Schedule districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
“The people of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong elected us once again and now it is our duty to work for cause of the people,” chief executive member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang said.
Several party workers and supporters from other parties and candidates, who lost in the concluded KAAC elections also joined BJP in the rally.
Among them were Congress leader and independent candidate from Kopili MAC constituency, Bajong Tisso; Congress leader and independent candidate from Lumbajong MAC constituency, Rangsina Hanse; former president, KSA and United Democratic Front of Surupathar (UDFS) backed independent candidate from Surupathar MAC constituency, Simeon Rongphar; independent candidate from Socheng Dhenta, Mohen Bey; Congress candidate from Kopili MAC constituency, Kareng Phangchopi; Congress candidate from Hamren and MAC constituency, Rupesh Bey along with their supporters have joined the BJP on Wednesday.
Kneeling down in front of the gathering to express his gratitude to the people the CEM said, “I on behalf of the 26 MACs expressed my deep and sincere gratitude to the people of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong as you have reposed your faith on us. You have given us another five years’ chance to serve you. We need your blessings and I assure you together with all the 26 MACs of ‘Team Karbi Anglong’ will strive to work for the interest of the people and to take Karbi Anglong to a greater height.”
Blaming the leadership of All Party Hills Leaders Conference JI Kathar, the CEM said he was just misleading the people for his own political benefits.
“Is it not strange that Kathar is demanding re-election of KAAC, after the Government has been formed and the post of chairman and CEM has been elected? If he is not satisfied with the conduct of the election then why can’t he demand re-election soon after voting ended. He is making an issue just to mislead the people,” the CEM said.
The CEM made clarification on the eviction drive carried out at Rongpangthir, 5th Miles, Lumding Road and said the 25 bighas were initially allotted to the Central Silk Board for plantation purposes. But people have encroached the land. In 2013 when Joyram Engleng was CEM and the District Judicial Court had sought land for the court complex and the 25 bighas land was re-allotted to the District Judicial Court.
The CEM said the 11 families who are genuinely landless will be rehabilitated at Baliram Terang village, Lumding Road. Rs. 1 lakhs and 10 pieces of tin sheets will be provided for construction of houses.
He also said seeing the need for more land as the present Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) will be made a full-fledged University and during the tenure of Jotson Bey as CEM allotted land for AUDC. Some portion of the land has been encroached. Likewise at Birla the land allotted to Soil Conservation has been encroached and eviction will be carried out as a new deputy commissioner’s office will come up there.
He further said around 1,678 illegal structures at Langkaijan were being evicted. A solar plant will come up there. At Dudu Colony eviction has stopped, but it will continue.
As there is the need for Science streams in other colleges the CEM said within two years the KAAC will try to introduce Science streams in Rangsina College, Dongkamukam and in other provincialised colleges as well. The Rs. 875 crores Assam Mala road project from Donkamukam to Khanduli will be constructed in two years time, the CEM said.
MLA, Bidyasing Engleng said JI kathar is a corrupted officer. When he was posted at KAAC as secretary he took 10% from contractors. How can Kathar demand re-election to the KAAC, when all formalities have been completed. The 26 elected MACs have been administered the oath of office in presence of Governor of Assam, Jagdish Mukhi, who is also the custodian of the 6th Schedule and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
MP Horensing Bey said the BJP Government makes no discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, language and communities and treats equally to all.
