DIPHU, Jan 19: Gunotsav for evaluating student’s aptitude, and infrastructure of the schools to bring quality in learning levels and school environment was conducted in several schools in Karbi Anglong.
External evaluation was conducted where the external evaluators visited the schools. They conducted reading and writing exercises for the children to test their learning abilities.
The external evaluators also interacted with the students, teachers and members of School Managing Committee (SMC) to know about the needs of students, teachers and school infrastructure.
HAD minister Jogen Mohan, who is the guardian minister of the three hills districts of Assam, also came to Diphu to participate in the Gunotsav.
The minister visited Govt Girls High School here, where he interacted with the students, teachers and members of the SMC. The minister also went around the school to see its infrastructure.
While speaking to the media he said, “As a Guardian Minister I have visited Girls high school and interacted with the students and teachers to know about their requirements. The school has shown improvement. In this Gunotsav I can say the school will get above C grade.”
“The teachers have contributed to the improvement of education,” he said, adding that the involvement of SMC members was encouraging.
He also said, “It is a pride for the school as the present deputy commissioner of Karbi Anglong, Madhusmita Bhagawati is a student of this school. It has done a lot for the education of girl students. Attendance is good.”
The school will be upgraded to senior secondary with Class- XI and XII and the matter has been discussed with the state government, the minister said.
About the district’s poor performance in the previous Gunotsav, the minister said there is a lack of awareness among the general public on the improvement of education. There are some areas where the distance from school to home is very far.
For improvement of education there should be the participation of the general public to check whether students go to school regularly or not and the attendance of teachers, he said.
The HAD minister had the Mid-day meal with the students. He was joined by executive member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Education, Richard Tokbi and deputy commissioner Madhusmita Bhagawati.
On Thursday morning, Tokbi visited Semson Sing Engti Memorial LP School, Dillaji and interacted with the students and teachers. He also conducted reading and writing sessions for the students. He further enquired about the infrastructure and other requirements of the school.
The teachers informed the EM about the insufficient furniture and the need for additional classrooms. The EM also participated in the mid-meal with students.
At Rongkimi English LP School, the EM, District Social Welfare and ICDS, Rina Terangpi visited the school and conducted reading and writing tests for students.
She also interacted with the teachers and members of the SMC. The EM found that there is a huge number of enrolments and two more teachers are needed to be appointed to meet the teacher-student ratio.
There are more than 300 students, the president of the SMC, Vivian Longki Rongpi informed.
