GUWAHATI, Sept 15: The Heart Care Society of Assam, a non-profit NGO and member of the World Heart Federation, inaugurated its silver jubilee year with a befitting celebration at a function held at the GMCH auditorium on Sunday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The programme began with the national anthem, followed by a Borgeet sung by Dr Shikhamoni Bezbaruah Goswami, treasurer of the ladies’ forum of the organisation. The lighting of the lamp and inauguration of the programme were conducted by Dr Dhruba Jyoti Borah, vice-chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences. Renowned poet and ex-president of the Assam Poets’ Forum, Anis-uz-Zaman, graced the event as the chief guest. Other special invitees included Dr Achyut Chandra Baishya, principal, GMCH; Dr Arup Kumar Barman, medical superintendent, GMCH; renowned singer Manisa Hazarika; and Manoj Kumar Roy, CEO of Apollo Hospital, Guwahati. All the dignitaries on the dais were felicitated individually by the Society members. Several other personalities from the fields of industry and healthcare were also felicitated.
Mukul Narayan Barman, chairman of the Guwahati Chapter of the Society, delivered a warm welcome address. Ikramul Majid, vice-president of the Heart Care Society of Assam, gave a brief description of the mission and vision of the organisation. The CRIS-Card for women, a women’s health initiative launched in collaboration with Apollo Clinic, Guwahati, was inaugurated by chief guest Anis-uz-Zaman and Dr Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee, president of the Heart Care Society of Assam, who spoke about the unique initiative. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Nilakshi Goswami Bezbaruah, secretary of the women’s forum of the Society. Sonali Dey and Dr Madhusmrita Bhagabati, both members of the Heart Care Society of Assam, beautifully anchored the entire programme.
After the tea break, a panel discussion on heart and healthcare was held, featuring doctors Dr Rituporno Baruah, Dr Rakesh Periwal, Dr N Nath, and Dr Nilaksha Bhattacharjee. The session was moderated by Dr Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee, and all the participants were felicitated by the Heart Care Society of Assam.
The evening’s attractive cultural programme included chorus performances, classical dances, skits, dramas, solo songs, and more, presented by in-house artists of the Heart Care Society and their children. The event concluded with the rendition of ‘Asom Sangeet’. Dinner was served to the members and guests.
