DHUBRI, June 26: In a major anti-narcotics operation, South Salmara Police seized heroin and tramadol capsules worth over ₹67 lakh from a residence in Bhalughat under South Salmara Mankachar district late Wednesday night.
The seizure was made following specific intelligence input.
Based on a General Diary Entry (GDE No. 15, dated June 25, 2025) at South Salmara Police Station, a search operation was conducted at the residence of Mohor Ali in Bhalughat under the leadership of Inspector J S Khobung, officer-in-charge of South Salmara PS.
The team comprised Sub-Inspectors Kaushik Dutta and Isha Hoque, Women Police Constables, Under Battalion Constables, and other personnel.
During the search, the police recovered a significant quantity of illicit substances from Ashraful Islam (27), son of Mohor Ali, who has been identified as a professional drug peddler.
The seizure included 25 soap cases containing heroin powder with a total gross weight of 1,001 grams and a net heroin content of 316 grams, valued at approximately ₹63,20,000.
Additionally, 32 strips of tramadol capsules—totaling 768 capsules with a combined weight of 622 grams—were seized, with an estimated market value of ₹3,84,000.
Other items recovered include an Oppo mobile phone with two SIM cards registered in Islam’s name and a Yamaha motorcycle bearing registration number AS-01FF-5820.
The heroin powder tested positive during on-the-spot verification using a drug detection kit.
The entire seizure process was documented through the e-sakshya platform.
Ashraful Islam has been arrested, and a case has been registered against him. Authorities stated that the operation represents a significant step in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.
