Jayanta Hazarika’s birth anniversary celebrated in grand style

GUWAHATI, Sept 20: Byatikram Group, in collaboration with Xur Bahini, once again orchestrated a magnificent celebration in honour of the legendary singer and composer, Jayanta Hazarika, on Wednesday at the Pragjyoti ITA in Machkhowa, continuing its annual tradition.

The event commenced at 2:00 pm in the esteemed ITA Seminar Hall and was graced by a distinguished guest list. Among the prominent attendees were Ruhul Amin, assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh; the renowned singer, Manisha Hazarika; Akon Choudhury, deputy general of NHPC; Mausum Kumar Uzir, president of All Assam Development Council; Dr Bobita Sinha, chairperson of Helping Hand Social Foundation; the accomplished filmmaker and social worker, Shankar Lall Goenka; Krishna Baruah, state mission director of ASRLM; Eminent Singer JP Das; actor Kapil Bora; social worker Pranesh Debnath; Prof Jiban Nath, along with other illustrious personalities from diverse fields.

The program was enriched by captivating song and dance performances, featuring a lineup of talented artists including Sandeepa D Sharma, Dhrishtee Devi, Kripamoy Das, Anulata Nath, Nizara Banikya, Jiban Nath, Rinjumoni Saikia, Manashi Devi, Sanskrita Malakar, Sarat Raj, Anuhan Bordoloi, and many more. Additionally, there was a mesmerising live art presentation by Biswadeep Sarma, Protim Saikia, Nabanit Augusti, Garima Deka, Sonia Boro, Tapash Nath, Sentu Modak, and Ajanta Das.

During this momentous occasion, the noted Bodo singer, Sulekha Basumatary, was conferred with the prestigious Jayanta Hazarika Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2023.

Dr Saumen Bharatiya, the founder of Byatikram Group, expressed, “Jayanta Hazarika’s music transcends time and boundaries, garnering him a vast following in India and abroad. Our humble endeavour is to unite Jayanta Hazarika’s fans and celebrate his enduring musical legacy.”

Sulekha Basumatary shared her sentiments, stating, “I have always been inspired by the brilliance of Jayanta Hazarika. Receiving this honour on his birthday feels like I am on cloud nine. I am committed to drawing inspiration from this recognition and contributing to the advancement of Bodo music.”

Representing Xur Bahini, an organisation founded by the late Jayanta Hazarika himself, Manisha Hazarika, an acclaimed singer and Jayanta Hazarika’s wife, remarked, “Xur Bahini is Jayanta Hazarika’s brainchild. We are delighted to celebrate his brief but impactful life on this significant occasion. It’s an opportunity for his fans and music enthusiasts to come together and cherish the memory of the enigmatic Jayanta Hazarika.”

The event received valuable support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, government of Assam, NHPC, assistant high commission of Bangladesh, and Dr Paul’s.
