NAGAON, March 5: The Nagaon district body of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the office of the district commissioner here against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state.
A large number of agitators from the organization participated in the stir; the surroundings of the small town reverberated with various anti-CAA slogans. The agitators demanded the repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act at any point saying that the implementation of the act in the state will pose a threat to the very existence of the greater Assamese people in the days to come and the organization will not allow its implementation.
Terming the recent move for implementation of the act as unconstitutional as well as undemocratic, Pragjyotish Bonia and Debasish Das, the president and secretary of the district unit of the youth organization respectively asserted that the move for implementation of the act would smash the identity of the Assamese community in future and the organization will not spare it at any point.
The district leadership of the organization also said that although the matter was still pending in the Supreme Court, without waiting for the final verdict the Union government conspired to implement the act just ahead of general elections only for gaining political benefits.
AJYCP also submitted a memorandum to the President in this regard through the Nagaon district commissioner. Deepmoni Bora, central organizing secretaryand Diganta Das, central publicity secretary of the organization also participated in the agitation.

JORHAT, Mar 5: The Jorhat district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a demonstration in front of the Jorhat district commissioner’s office complex on Tuesday to protest against the Central Government’s proposed decision to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 in the current month.
Holding banners and placards the protestors shouted slogans against the central government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing the move to implement the controversial act. They also targeted the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for supporting the Act.
They said that the said law poses a great threat to the languages, art and culture of the indigenous people of the region. They stated that the said Act contradicted the Assam Accord, which was for safeguarding the interests of indigenous people of the state in all spheres.
AJYCP state assistant general secretary Siba Kalita, cultural secretary Suraj Kalita, publicity secretary Ashim Jyoti Saikia, executive committee member Nabajyoti Bora, Jorhat sistrict committee president and general secretary, Pranabjyoti Saikia and Babu Dutta and advisor of Jorhat district committee Zakir Hussain were among the protesters who took part in the stir
Later, the Jorhat district unit of the students’ body, through the Jorhat DC’s office, sent a memorandum to the President, opposing the Union Government’s move to implement the said act and sought its repeal.
