DONGKAMUKAM, May 11: Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts are preparing for the celebration of the Salesians’ arrival to North East India at Sojong, near Dongkamukam from May 13 to 15, 2022.
The celebration in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao cluster will include Youth Camp on the first and second day during which singing, dancing, quiz competition, games and sports, etc., will be held.
On the concluding day, Rev Bishop Paul Mattekat DD of Diphu will preside over the Holy Mass followed by a grand cultural show which will be attended by chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang as the chief guest.
According to the reports, 11 Salesian missionaries arrived a 100 years ago on January 13, 1922, in Shillong, the capital of the then undivided Assam.
In 100 years the Salesians have established parishes, schools, colleges, technical institutions, social upliftment centres, etc., and many more.
They work in three provinces namely, Guwahati established in 1959, Dimapur established in 1981 and Shillong established in 2012.
