Campaigning for KAAC elections hots up

DIPHU, May 30: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a whirlwind tour of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong campaigning for the upcoming elections to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Addressing an election rally at Kha Engti Stadium, Rongmongve in Socheng Dhenta MAC constituency, he promised to aid in the development of the hill districts.
“The Prime Minister has laid the foundation of a veterinary college at Manja to be built with a cost of Rs. 300 crore. In KAAC administered areas, an agriculture college, one Government college and in the past five years a medical college in Diphu have been set up. Along with that, the construction of a cancer hospital is going on and in a few days, it will be completed. The law college is being built and we have also decided to establish a university in Karbi Anglong,” he said.
“If you compare that with the state of Nagaland where there is no medical college, Karbi Anglong wins as it has one. There is no cancer hospital in Nagaland, but there is one in Karbi Anglong. Also, they don’t have a veterinary college. We will have one here. We will have an agriculture college when Nagaland doesn’t have it. The institutes coming up in Karbi Anglong and scale of development is not seen in any other state in India in the last five years. We will have to take Karbi Anglong to another level,” he added.
The CM said there will be three engines, one at the Centre, one in Dispur and one in Diphu, i.e, KAAC. He said paddy will be procured at Rs. 2,000 per 100 kg.
The CM also campaigned at Hanjanglangso for 22 Sarupathar MAC Constituency candidate Kadom Terangpi and 23 Bokajan MAC Constituency BJP candidate Madhurjya Dhekial Phukan. He promised Orunodoi and Ration cards for those who have not been covered yet. He also promised to make Bokajan a Smart City.
The meetings were also attended by the state minister Pijush Hazarika, Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, KAAC and Assam Legislative Assembly deputy speaker, Dr Numal Momin.
He campaigned in Karbi Anglong at Umpanai for BJP MAC Amri candidate D Uphing Maslai and party candidate Abhijit Kro of Chingthong MAC constituency at Birsingki in West Karbi Anglong.
The CM said wider road connectivity of 28 Kms from Nelli to Umpanai would be constructed, and Karbi and Tiwa heritage buildings at Umpanai will be constructed.
The CM will campaign in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong for the MAC election from June 1 to 5 at 15 locations.
MLA of Thowra, Sushanta Borgohain campaigned in Hamren MAC constituency for BJP candidate Mangal Sing Timung. Borgohain expressed confidence that all 26 MAC constituencies will be swept by the BJP.
