DIPHU, June 25: The 254th Session of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) was held at the KAAC Session Hall in Diphu on Thursday under the chairmanship of Council Chairman Raju Tisso, with members deliberating on a series of important financial and administrative matters.
During the session, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang tabled several key Bills relating to the powers and functions of the Customary Law Court, the KAAC Employees’ Pension and the council’s taxation framework.
He also placed the latest reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) before the House.
Among the major proposals introduced during the session was a Bill seeking revision of salaries and allowances for the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Chief Executive Member, Executive Members (EMs) and Members of the Autonomous Council (MACs).
The House also observed a solemn obituary reference in memory of former Union Deputy Minister and former Chief Executive Member of the KAAC, late Biren Singh Engti. Members paid rich tributes to the veteran leader and acknowledged his contributions to the development of Karbi Anglong.
Earlier in the day, former MLA Darsing Ronghang was sworn in as a nominated Member of the Autonomous Council.
The oath of office was administered by Karbi Anglong District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia in the presence of CEM Tuliram Ronghang and other council dignitaries.
Newly appointed Executive Members Headsing Rongphar and Kadom Terangpi also formally assumed charge of their respective offices before the commencement of the council session.
The proceedings focused on strengthening the council’s administrative and financial framework while addressing legislative and governance matters concerning the autonomous council.
