The KARAA was formed in 2015 by the indigenous tribes domiciled in Karbi Anglong. They are Karbi, Dimasa. Khasi, Garo, Tiwa, Man Tai Shyam, Naga Rengma, Kuki.

Attending as the chief guest during the open session on the concluding day today, Lumbajong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Johny Timung said KAAC has given the authority to rong asar (traditional village headmen) to issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) for transfer of land and issue of land pattas from Land & Revenue department.

Timung said, “As demanded by you that the rong asar (traditional village headmen) should have the authority of issuing NOC to any person before going to Land & Revenue department for issuing of land pattas, transfer and sale of land with the intention to check land of scheduled tribes people going to non-tribal communities. Accordingly the KAAC has passed a resolution in the Executive Committee (EC) meeting.”

The MAC asked rong asar under the banner of KARAA to work unitedly in promoting the language, culture and customs of the scheduled tribes and in protecting the land. He also asked rong asar to have decent behaviour, good morals and a positive approach to people. Rong sar as much as possible should minimise taking time to drink as it does not look good for them.

The newly elected KARAA president, Kramsa said as the KAAC has entrusted rong asar in issuing NOC, will see to it that it is issued to genuine persons and not those to temporary settlers and non-scheduled tribes people. Rong asar will be strict in checking influx and outsiders entering their territory.

In the morning the outgoing president Ram Terang hoisted the organisation’s flag. The open session was presided over by the outgoing vice president, Bidyasing Hanse.
