DIPHU, Dec 2: Karbi Anglong Agriculture department organised a day-long Rong Amei – a ‘gramya awareness programme’ on PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, paddy procurement, account opening at of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) in different blocks of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The development blocks covered were Rongmongwe, Howraghat, Bokajan, Bakalia, Lumbajong, Lansomepi and Nilip.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan Yojana) is a flagship scheme implemented all over the country including Karbi Anglong district through which income support of Rs 6000 per annum is provided to all eligible farmers in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 every four months.
The Rs. 75,000 crore scheme aims to cover 125 million farmers, irrespective of the size of their landholding. The fund of Rs 2,000 is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the farmers/farmer’s family.
The farmers’ response to the gram sabhas was well received and they appreciated the importance of the topics covered in the programme.
