DIPHU, Nov 28: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) observed the 70th death anniversary of its first chief executive member, Khorsing Terang, on Thursday. The event was marked by a series of commemorative activities, including a garlanding ceremony at the memorial park near Karbi Anglong Sports Association Stadium and the New Memorial Park near the residence of current KAAC chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang.
Interfaith prayers were offered by leaders from various religious communities, including Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Islam, Karbi traditional belief, Lokhimon sect, and Karbi Bhaktitom Trust. Padmashree Dhaneswar Engti also paid tribute to Terang by reciting a commemorative poem.
Khorsing Terang, born in 1906, was a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in the formation of the Karbi Anglong district in 1951. He served as an MLC in the Assam Legislative Council during the pre-independence era and was elected as an MLA in the first Assam Assembly elections in 1951.
KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang praised Terang’s contributions and urged the community to emulate his unity-driven approach. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Karbi Anglong district, including border disputes and the ongoing pursuit of Autonomous State. Ronghang emphasised the need for unity and cooperation to address these issues and fulfill the dreams envisioned by Khorsing Terang.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MLAs Bidyasing Engleng and Darsing Ronghang, and KAAC chairman Raju Tisso.
