Karbi Summer Meet held at Kokrajhar

DIPHU, June 27: The Karbis in lower Assam working in government and educational institutions, businessmen and students studying in various colleges have come together to hold a Karbi Summer Meet, 2022 at Assam Sahitya Sabha Bhawan, Kokrajhar on Sunday last to form the Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) – Karbi literary body, Lower Assam Branch.

There were assistant professors, officers of Assam Forest Service, engineers, rangers, and students studying in Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar and Central Institute Of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar and government employees from Barpeta, Goalpara, Chirang, Dhubri and Kokrajhar attended the meeting. Altogether 43 persons attended the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by assistant professor of Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar, Dr (Er) Medalson Ronghang and the object of the meeting was explained by Borsing Enghi.

Stress was laid on non-discrimination on the line of religion and organisations and Karbis of the plains and hill districts and to maintain the Karbi identity. The Karbis in lower Assam can establish their own identity and lead the youths and help each other in times of need.

Karbis in lower Assam have been staying there for various purposes and are asked to adapt to their own culture and tradition and to acknowledge the contribution of those Karbis working in government offices and students studying in various colleges towards Karbi society.

Senior FAO, Bodo Territorial Council, Kokrajhar, Sarat Teron; senior manager, NTPC Salakati, Er. Krishno Tisso; assistant general manager, AEGCL, Salakati, Er. Borsing Ingti; assistant professor, Kokrajhar Government College, Eulolia Inghipi; senior officer, Fire & Emergency Department, Kokrajhar, Hukumson Ronghang; FAO, Chirang Commissioner office, Manas Teron; Ranger, Bijni, AFS, Rangke Rongpi; Assistant Professor, BH College, Howly, Manish Killing and O/c of Kokrajhar Police Station, Moneswar Bey participated in the discussion.

In the meeting, the house appointed Dr. (Er.) Medelson Ronghang as president of KLA Lower Assam Branch with Hukumson Ronghang and Eulolia Inghipi as vice presidents; Borsing Enghi as secretary and Er. Krishno Tisso and Sunaram Teron as assistant secretaries; Manas Teron as finance secretary and Grace Ingtipi as assistant finance secretary; Joysing Rongphar as office secretary; Manish Killing as Editor of ‘Lokimo’; Mahesh Terang as Cultural secretary; Albertson Bey, Lily Terangpi and Hokdar Terang as Organising secretaries.

Executive members are Chojet Rongpi, Pinongmepi Timungpi, Kirhong Bey, Japjir Terangpi, Ojangka Singnarpi, Mirmili Terangpi, Monjir Terangpi, Klarika Tokbi Hingchong Bey, Sum Rongphar, Bibison Teron and Longthir Timung. Sarat Teron and Moheswar Bey are appointed as advisers.

In the meeting, members appreciated those who have taken the initiative for the introduction of Karbi as MIL in the HS first year from the 2022 Academic Session by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.
