GUWAHATI, June 23: Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning–Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (COL-CEMCA), organised a one-day State-Level Workshop-cum-Sensitisation Programme on “Boosting Graduate Employability and Career Readiness in Higher Education” at its City Campus in Khanapara on Tuesday.
The workshop brought together 24 participants, including college principals, IQAC coordinators, faculty members, placement and career guidance officers, and representatives from higher educational institutions across Assam to deliberate on ways to enhance graduate employability and strengthen the alignment between higher education and the changing needs of industry and society.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of KKHSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajendra Prasad Das, COL-CEMCA Director Dr Basheerhamad Shadrach and KKHSOU Registrar Prof Pranab Saikia.
Addressing the participants, the speakers emphasised the growing importance of employability skills, career readiness and institutional reforms in preparing graduates for an increasingly competitive job market.
During the technical sessions, Prof Pranab Saikia introduced participants to the concept of graduate employability and explained the COL Graduate Employability Model and Employability Scorecard, a framework designed to help institutions assess and improve employability outcomes.
Participants were also provided with the Employability Scorecard for institutional self-assessment.
Interactive group activities led by Programme Coordinator Dr Indrani Kalita enabled participants to revalidate the employability scorecard for their respective institutions and develop institution-specific employability frameworks.
The sessions facilitated the exchange of best practices and encouraged collaborative discussions on strengthening career readiness among students.
The organisers highlighted that employability today extends beyond academic achievement and encompasses critical thinking, communication skills, problem-solving abilities and professional competencies.
They stressed that higher education institutions must adopt a holistic approach to equip graduates with the skills and attributes demanded by modern employers.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session and participant feedback, reaffirming the commitment of KKHSOU and COL-CEMCA to promoting employability-focused reforms and strengthening higher education in the northeastern region.
