DIPHU, Aug 25: The Karbi Students Association (KSA), under the leadership of Jameson Timung, strongly condemns the recent incident where two houses belonging to Karbi families were set on fire in Tapat, Chirilangso, located in West Karbi Anglong.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) Central Committee here on Friday, Moniram Teron, the vice president of KSA, expressed deep concern over the incident. According to Teron, miscreants from Meghalaya had crossed over into West Karbi Anglong on Thursday and deliberately set ablaze the two Karbi houses. The KSA unequivocally condemns such actions and considers the incident as unfortunate.

Teron highlighted that this incident is not an isolated one, as there have been previous instances of tensions being escalated along the border areas due to the actions of miscreants from Meghalaya. He cited examples such as the destruction of the entry tax gate set up by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on April 17, 2023. On May 11, 2023, miscreants attacked Albertson Timung and other villagers in Tado village in Khanduli. Molotov cocktails were also thrown at a Karbi House in Shillong on the same day. On May 13, 2023, another incident occurred where a house in Ningkreng village was burnt down by miscreants from Meghalaya.

The KSA has appealed the Assam government to take immediate action by deploying an adequate number of security personnel in these border regions.

The lack of security presence has left the people vulnerable to attacks from across the border, resulting in a sense of insecurity among the local population, the KSA said.
