Marathon & Asomi Mela organised at Margherita

MARGHERITA, Nov 23: A marathon race was flagged off by Preeti Kumari, IAS, SDO (civil) Margherita from Eco Park to Central Field, Margherita on Wednesday, as a part of the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan.
The event was organised by Margherita Civil Administration in collaboration with the Margherita District Sports Association.
Along with the SDO and officials of the administration, students from different educational institutes also took part in the marathon.
Another event ‘Asomi Mela’ was also inaugurated at Eco Park by the SDO, Margherita, which was organised by Margherita Civil Administration in collaboration with Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission and Assam State Urban Livelihood Mission, under Margherita Development Block.
Preeti Kumari, IAS, SDO (civil) Margherita said that the courage and strength of Bir Lachit Borphukan is similar to those of the women entrepreneurs, who run their businesses while also managing their respective households.
Around 15 stalls were opened by the women SHG members which comprises traditional garments, artefacts, plants, eateries, etc., and the trade fair which commenced from Wednesday will run till November 25.
The inauguration function was also attended by Anand Kumar Sarma and Rajlaxi Devi Gogoi, both chairman and vice chairman of Margherita Municipal Board, assistant commissioners of Margherita Administration (civil) Siddhartha Sh Sonowal and Pranta Pratim Patra, Margherita election officer Aditi Neog, Margherita circle officer Runal Nath, Margherita block development officer Urvashi Chetia and other administrative officials along with block project manager Olee Paul, members of different Self Help Groups and general public.
