MARGHERITA, March 21: Margherita municipal board which consists of 10 wards has been formed for the development of Margherita Town but unfortunately many business establishment and traders of Margherita has illegally encroached drains for which during the rainy season locals face water logging mainly at Margherita market area.

Mainly ward number 6 of Margherita Municipal Board area suffers a lot as maximum shopkeepers, business establishment and traders have illegally occupied the drains and extended their premises for which during the rainy season excess water goes inside the houses, shops etc.

There are more than 500 shops and 300 petty traders at ward member 6 of Margherita market area but since establishment of Margherita Municipal Board no chairman/chairperson of Margherita Municipal Board have tried to solve the water logging problem for which during the rainy season water enter our houses and shops said a resident of ward number 6 of Margherita Municipal Board area.

Multiple times we have to complain to the chairman of Margherita Municipal Board regarding encroachment of drains but he never give importance to our problem and every year during rainy season ward number 6 face water logging of said a resident of this ward.

Again from April 1 Assam government has increased 25 % of the holding tax which is again a big blow for us hence we demand Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to immediately take action against those businessman and shopkeepers who have illegally encroached the drains in Margherita Municipal Board area.
