MARGHERITA, June 11: In a Sunday morning operation, Margherita police confiscated a fully loaded truck carrying illegal cow bones. The seizure of cow bones has raised suspicions of rampant illegal cattle smuggling in parallel within the 124 no Margherita constituency of Tinsukia district.
The truck, registered under the number UP 25ET 8047, arrived at the Bargolai weighbridge for weighing. Local youths became suspicious of the truck and immediately alerted the Margherita police. Upon inspection, it was found that the truck was transporting cow bones.
According to sources, the cow bones were loaded from Masjid Patty in Margherita, and certain illegal traders were planning to transport the bones, weighing over 5 tonnes, from Margherita to Sambalpur, Odisha. The market value of the cow bones in the international market is estimated to be worth millions of rupees.
Margherita police is currently investigating the entire case, and both the truck driver and handyman have been interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
