SIVASAGAR, Oct 7: Hundreds of mid-day meal workers in
Sivasagar on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of the
district commissioner’s office demanding immediate release of
their stipends of Rs 1500 pm due over many months.
The workers raised slogans against the authorities for their
alleged indifference to their plight and said that the higher
officers draw salaries over a lakh but they have no empathy for
the toiling women, Trishna Nath, the leader of the MDA
workers said. The workers said they wouldn’t leave the place
until the authority released their stipends.
Inspector of schools, Sivasagar Circle Devajyoti Gogoi said that
the district authority does not have any role in releasing their
stipends as it enters directly into their bank accounts. The
Central government releases one thousand while the state
government’s share is Rs five hundred. The state government’s
share to the beneficiaries was not released for 10 months from
Nov’22 till August’23.
The IS, Sivasagar added that their remunerations have been
released by the government as per an intimation sent to the IS
Office, and the beneficiaries will get it in a day to two. Their
remuneration is expected to be regularised after this month, he
added.
