NAGAON, Dec 2: A minor tragically passed away under mysterious circumstances at a nursing home in Nagaon, following complications from an illegal abortion. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.
According to sources, the girl’s mother had allegedly paid Rs 15,000 to a doctor for the procedure. The abortion was performed at a private maternity center in Nagaon by a doctor identified as Dr Datta. Following the procedure, the girl reportedly experienced excessive bleeding and a dangerous drop in oxygen levels. She was then rushed to another private nursing home for treatment but succumbed to her condition.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from locals, who are demanding strict action against the doctor and staff involved. In connection with the case, the police have arrested a nurse, Taslima Begum, while investigations are ongoing.
This tragedy has also brought to light the troubling issue of illegal abortions in the region. Residents allege that several clinics and nursing homes in Nagaon are involved in such unlawful practices, with little to no intervention from the Health Department.
Police have registered a case against the doctor and the staff of the nursing home, and further investigations are underway.
