NAGAON, Dec 21: The District and Session Court, Nagaon on Wednesday awarded lifetime rigorous imprisonment to seven persons in connection with the murder of a youth at Misa tea estate in July, 2013.

Besides, the same court also imposed an extra monetary penalty of Rs 10,000 on each of them failing which they have to undergo additional six months simple imprisonment, sources said, adding that noted public prosecutor Bibha Phukon conducted the prosecution of the case in the trial.
The convicts are Gobra Gour, Mongru Gour, Sunil Gour, Dhiren Gour, Amar Singh Gour, Durjan Gour and Bhogran Gour.
The case was initiated by Misa police outpost under Kaliabor PS following the mysterious death of the youth named as Jugeswar Teli when he was undergoing treatment in Nagaon BP Civil Hospital on July 14, 2013, after he was brutally tortured for allegedly raping a minor girl.
Meanwhile Mongal Teli, younger brother of the victim, lodged an FIR at Misa police outpost the following day in this regard alleging that all those accused persons called him out from his house and was then brutally tortured and physically assaulted with sticks as well as iron rods by the gang of accused persons saying that he allegedly raped a minor girl.
Subsequently, they handed him over to Misa outpost police for further lawful action on the same evening. Police immediately admitted him to the Nagaon BP Civil Hospital after a while. But he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on the same night.
Misa police registered the case under sections 302/34 IPC and initiated an investigation into the entire episode by then in-charge officer of the outpost SI Biraj Mohan Deka, sources added further.
