KOKRAJHAR, Jan 25: As part of Assam’s statewide celebration of 200 years of tea, the Mukhyamantrir “Eti Koli, Duti Paat” scheme was launched in Kokrajhar on Sunday, providing one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to tea garden workers and employees.
The programme, held at Daloabari Tea Estate Football Ground, was attended by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, EM Derhasat Basumatary, Prakash Basumatary, MLA Dhaneswar Goyary, Azamul Hoque, Jubiraj Basumatary, District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty, senior officials and tea garden representatives. Beneficiaries included 1,755 workers from Kokrajhar Tea Garden and 2,321 from Daloabari Tea Garden, totaling 4,076 workers.
The celebration commenced with a live streaming of the central programme from Doomdooma, where Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed cheques to beneficiaries.
Addressing the gathering, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary noted that this was the first dedicated initiative for the welfare of the tea tribes community. He emphasised the government’s efforts under Chief Minister Sarma to introduce opportunities and facilities for tea tribes after decades of neglect, highlighting the importance of communal harmony and peace for sustained development in Bodoland.
District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty in his welcome address, marked the day as a special occasion celebrating Assam Tea’s 200-year legacy and highlighted government initiatives to improve health, education and socio-economic conditions in tea estate areas.
The event saw active participation from community leaders, tea garden representatives, officials and stakeholders, reinforcing the collective commitment to celebrate tea heritage and promote inclusive development.
Our Tamulpur Correspondent adds: Under the Assam Government’s flagship “Mukhyamantrir Eti Koli Duti Paat” scheme, cheques were distributed on Sunday to tea garden workers and employees of Menka and Nagrizuli tea estates in Tamulpur district, recognising their contribution to Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry.
The programmes were held at Nagrizuli and Menka tea gardens. Assam Cabinet Minister and Tamulpur Guardian Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah attended the event at Nagrizuli, while BTC Deputy Chief Bijit Goura Narzary and local MLA Jalen Daimary were present at Menka.
At the start, participants watched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” and the central scheme programme from Tinsukia, addressed by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. District Commissioner Simi Karan in her welcome address at Nagrizuli, congratulated all beneficiaries.
Minister Mallabaruah highlighted issues such as tea garden land rights, subsidised essential commodities, inclusion of 2,000 new beneficiaries under the Arunodoy scheme and allocation of 50 bighas of land for a degree college.
As part of the scheme, Rs 5,000 each was distributed to 1,053 tea workers of Nagrizuli and 782 workers of Menka, benefiting a total of 1,835 tea workers. The Nagrizuli programme was also attended by BTC Executive Member Lakhi Das, District Commissioner Simi Karan and SSP Taburam Pegu, while Menka saw the presence of BTC Deputy Chief Bijit Goura Narzary, MLA Jalen Daimary and other dignitaries, informed Sub-Divisional IPR Officer Bijoy Bezbaruah.
Our Biswanath Chariali Correspondent adds: The Assam government’s ‘Eti Kali, Duti Paat’ scheme for tea workers, recognising their contribution to the 200-year-old tea industry, was launched in Biswanath district o Sunday. The programme was rolled out through events at Mijikajan Tea Estate (Biswanath), Bargang Tea Estate (Behali) and Helem Tea Estate (Gohpur).
The Biswanath event was inaugurated by MLA Pramod Barthakur, former MP Pallab Lochan Das and Additional District Commissioner Kabita Kakati Konwar. Officials and employees of the district administration were present. Rs 5,000 each will be provided to 12,361 beneficiaries from seven tea estates in Biswanath constituency.
The Behali inauguration was attended by MP Ranjit Dutta, MLA Diganta Ghatowal and other dignitaries with 15,520 workers from 10 estates set to benefit. In Gohpur, MLA Utpal Bora and officials oversaw the launch for 4,889 beneficiaries from five estates.
