SIVASAGAR, Aug 30: The All Assam Mobile Tower Workers Union held a protest demonstration on Monday, accusing mobile tower installation companies of violating labour laws and exploiting workers. The union claimed that the companies, responsible for erecting these towers, have been subjecting workers to unfair treatment. Workers alleged that not only are they often subjected to threats by company executives, but they also face delays in receiving their meagre salary of Rs 2700. Adding to their grievances, the workers asserted that the companies have terminated the employment of over 300 workers since 2005.
During the protest, participants called for government intervention to address these issues and take action against the companies responsible. Sringkhal Chaliha, the leader of Bir Lachit Sena Asom, along with their supporters, joined the protest and emphasised the need for the affected workers to receive appropriate compensation from the companies.
