SIVASAGAR, May 27: Anjolee Chetia, the founder of the first Women’s Sports School in Upper Assam in Moran, a sports pensioner, and a leading personality in the cultural field of Upper Assam, was felicitated by Moran Milee Samaj on the occasion of her 68th birth anniversary on Sunday. The program, attended by a host of admirers of Anjolee Chetia, was presided over by noted journalist and editor of ‘Asom Aditya’, Kishore Manjit Bora. Bora, in his speech, lauded the organisers for their efforts to recognise and felicitate a truly worthy daughter of the region.
As the chief guest at the felicitation program, former principal of Jorhat College, Dr Debabrat Sarma, described her as a woman of exceptional character and integrity, serving as an inspiration for the younger generation. Anjolee Chetia was the great-granddaughter of Tengai Mohan, the first compiler of the Assamese dictionary.
The felicitation volume ‘Surjyasnata’, edited by Rajumoni Chetia, was released by Padmashree Hemaprabha Chutia. Speakers who addressed the gathering included minister Jogen Mohan, Dr Girin Phukan (former professor, Dibrugarh University), journalists Jadunath Puri and Utpal Bora, literary figure Ila Borgohain, Nilakanta Gogoi, Bijoy Rajkonwar, Pitambor Tairai Gogoi (cultural worker), Mahendra Gogoi (retired DSP), Dharmakanta Hazarika, and Pradip Borua. Over thirty organisations felicitated Chetia with gamosas and mementos. In her speech, Anjolee Chetia thanked the organisers and the attendees.
