Morigaon farmers sets record in pumpkin export

MORIGAON, Jan 31: Farmers of Raja-Mayang, Morigaon have set a record by exporting pumpkin to nearby states.

The farmers have exported about 35 metric tonnes  pumpkins from Kholabhuyan Rajamayang to Panchkora on the Orissa-Bengal border on Thursday. The farmers of Shildubi, Garaimari and Bardia areas of Rajamayang Krishi Chakra exported the pumpkin to Panchkora on the Odisha-Bengal border in the presence of district agriculture officer Ashok Kumar Sharma. The farmers are happy to export their produced pumpkins to the national market. The pumpkin cultivation started by the Morigaon district agriculture department has gained popularity in the local markets.

Progressive farmers have been able to cultivate Arjuna and 137 varieties of red pumpkin with the assistance of the department of agriculture. The farmers have already gained accolades by exporting pumpkin from various parts of the Rajamayang Agricultural Circle and brought hope to the agricultural sector.
