NAGAON, June 28: The bodies of a mother identified as Rashmita Hazarika and her eleven-month-old daughter were discovered floating in a pond behind their residence in Kampur Ghilani village on Thursday night.
Following this tragic incident, the maternal family of the deceased woman, based in Biswanath Chariali, filed an FIR alleging that Rashmita and her baby were victims of dowry-related murder perpetrated by her husband’s family. They claimed that the incident was staged to appear as a suicide.
The family further alleged that Rashmita had been subjected to dowry demands and torture for some time. Upon informing her parents about the situation over the phone, they had intended to bring her back home. However, her husband’s family allegedly prevented them from doing so.
Amidst these developments, the bodies of Rashmita and her baby were found in the pond located behind their house. Relatives of the deceased suspect foul play, alleging that the two were murdered and disposed of in the pond.
