MP Ranjit Dutta reviews development projects at Sonitpur DISHA meeting

TEZPUR, June 25: Member of Parliament from Sonitpur Lok Sabha constituency Ranjit Dutta on Thursday chaired the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the Convention Centre, Batamari, and reviewed the progress of flagship government schemes being implemented across Sonitpur district.

In his opening remarks, Dutta observed that it was the first DISHA meeting held after the formation of the new State Government and stressed the need for effective coordination among departments to ensure the timely implementation of development programmes.

The meeting was attended by Naduar MLA Padma Hazarika, Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava, Barchalla MLA Ritubaran Sharma, Sonitpur District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, Sonitpur Zilla Parishad Chairperson Manisha Upadhyay, District Development Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Sonitpur Zilla Parishad Jayanta Kumar Bora, Additional District Commissioners, elected representatives, heads of departments and other stakeholders.

The meeting began with a review of the Action Taken Report on decisions taken during the previous DISHA meeting, followed by detailed discussions on schemes implemented by the departments of Panchayat and Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Health, Public Works, Education, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Affairs, Forest, Municipal Administration, Water Resources, NHIDCL, BSNL and APDCL, among others.

The MP directed all departments to expedite the implementation of pending projects and emphasised the need for timely completion of works sanctioned under the 15th Finance Commission.

The committee also reviewed the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and the Awaas+ 2024 Survey, including progress in identifying land for landless beneficiaries.

Discussions were also held on the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission projects, monitoring the responsibilities of Jal Mitras, progress of Asom Mala road projects, Aadhaar seeding under municipal schemes, distribution of free bicycles to eligible students and the rationalisation of teachers and doctors across the district.

In view of the ongoing monsoon season, special emphasis was laid on strengthening embankments and flood preparedness.

The Water Resources Department was instructed to maintain adequate stocks of geobags, geo-tubes and other essential materials to enable prompt response during flood emergencies.

The committee further reviewed the progress of rural electrification in Forest Rights Committee (FRC) villages and the availability of mobile network connectivity in remote areas.

During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sonitpur Zilla Parishad also briefed members on various components of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM-G].

Prior to the DISHA meeting, members attended the District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting, chaired by Sonitpur Zilla Parishad Chairperson Manisha Upadhyay, during which schemes proposed under the tied and untied grants of the 15th Finance Commission for all five Legislative Assembly constituencies of the district were considered and approved.
