Mukoli Bihu in North Guwahati

GUWAHATI, April 20: The All North Guwahati Students’ Union and in collaboration with Rudraksha Cultural Art Niketan held a vibrant day-long celebration of Mukoli Bihu recently at the Barwari Durga Puja Mandap premises in Madhyakhanda, North Guwahati.

The event commenced with the ceremonial inauguration of the Bihu gate by Anamika Deka, the councillor of Ward No 8 of the North Guwahati Municipal Board. In her speech, Councillor Deka extended heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and the Assamese New Year to everyone present. She also appreciated the continuous effort of the All North Guwahati Students’ Union in preserving the rich tradition of Rongali Bihu and raising awareness among the younger generation by organizing such festivals annually.

 She expressed gratitude to the entire team for their noble initiative. During the event, Dipjyoti Barman, advisor of the All Kamrup District Students’ Union, played a pivotal role. A special felicitation was accorded to Jayanta Kumar Nath, former student leader who held significant responsibilities in the All Assam Students’ Union and currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Kamrup District OBC Board.

Several eminent personalities were also honored during the ceremony, including Ramen Nath (President of North Guwahati Sahitya Sabha), former president Gauri Kanta Kakoti, Ratul Baruah (President of Assam Mouzadar Association), Dilip Das (Retired Principal of North Guwahati College), Pinky Barman (Former President of the All North Guwahati Students’ Union), Brindali Devi (Former Secretary of Assam Science Society, North Guwahati Branch), journalists Madhusudan Medhi, Rupak Deka, Mukuteswar Goswami, Kaushik Das, Utpal Tamuli, along with prominent social workers Thaneswar Sharma, Indrajit Barman, Bharat Rajbongshi, Praneshwar Sharma, noted sportsperson Pranjal Burhagohain, and respected teacher Girin Das.

The Mukoli Bihu celebration began with a group song led by the music ensemble of Murchana Sangeet Vidyalaya under the guidance of Principal Kakoli Baruah. The cultural showcase included a rich variety of traditional folk performances from different communities of Assam such as Bihu Huchori, Kherai Dance, Sattriya Bhortal Dance, Jhumur Dance, Nepali Dance, Jeng Bihu, and Bagurumba Dance. Child artist Jimli Bora delivered a touching performance of a timeless song by Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, adding charm to the event.

The All North Guwahati Students’ Union expressed heartfelt thanks to all the dignitaries and attendees for making the event a grand success.
