National Inter University Debating Competition organised at Gauhati University

GUWAHATI, Oct 22: A National Inter University Debating Competition was organised by Gauhati University in association with Post Graduate Students Union, GU on Saturday.

The programme was started with GU anthem and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries present.  Prof. P.J. Handique, Vice Chancellor, GU, declared the programme open and said that it is a matter of great pleasure that a national level debate competition is being organised in the university specially as a part of ongoing year long platinum jubilee celebrations of the university.

Prof. Handique further said that we need to raise the issue of climate change especially amongst the student community and let everyone think that they are an integral part of the system and work on climate crisis.

Dr. H.K. Nath, registrar, GU was also present in the inaugural programme. Dr. Arup kr. Misra, chairman, Pollution Control Board, Assam as speaker of the Debate, P. J. Baruah, executive editor, The Assam Tribune,  Diganta Biswa Sarma, social worker and renowned debater and  Dr. Meghna Dutta, assistant professor, IIT, Patna acted as judges of the debate competition. Students from various universities of Assam and outside the State participated in the national level debate competition.

Kasturi Chutia of Gauhati University was adjudged as Best Debater, Archita Kashyap of Gauhati Medical College and Tridib Bhagabati of Cotton University were declared as 1st runner’s up and 2nd runner’s up respectively. Ashish Borua and Kasturi Chutia of Gauhati University were declared as Best Team, Tridib Bhagabati and Sudarsan Sharma of Cotton University as 1st runner’s up, Nilanjana Parashar and Niskamana Asomiya of Assam Royal Global University as 2nd runner’s up.
