Natun Sahitya Parishad announces awards

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 5: The undivided Sonitpur District Committee of Natun Sahitya Parishad has decided to confer the ‘Sonitpur Gaurav’ award to Dharanidhar Das, a renowned artiste, writer, and socio-cultural activist. The ‘Rupantoror Senani’ award will be conferred on Dr Dilip Kumar Baruah, a prominent writer of children’s literature and a social worker. In a press conference held recently, the awards were announced by Gyanendra Sarkar and Mrinal Goswami, the president and secretary, respectively, of the Natun Sahitya Parishad’s undivided Sonitpur District Committee.

The ‘Sonitpur Gaurav’ awardee, Dharanidhar Das, is a renowned artiste, author of numerous articles on social problems, editor of various magazines, and a famous sculptor. He has established the Biswanath Chitra Kala Kendra with the support of the local community and has been serving as the honorary principal of the art college and Abhijatri Chitra Kala Vidyalaya at Jamugurihat. He has also undertaken numerous other socio-cultural activities in the interest of public service. 

Dr Dilip Kumar Baruah is a celebrated author of children’s books, having written more than twenty books for children. He has also authored numerous novels, dramas, songs, and one-act plays for children. Born in 1956 in Behali, in present-day Biswanath District, Baruah began his literary career as a newspaper reporter and has written over 3,000 articles on social issues.

The Sonitpur Gaurav award and the Rupantoror Senani award will be presented to Dharanidhar Das and Dr Dilip Kumar Baruah, respectively, on December 25, 2024, during the 43rd Annual Conference of the Natun Sahitya Parishad’s Sonitpur District Committee to be held at Nasbor Ronga Mancha in Behali.
