Maintaining the glorious legacy of Tezpur in the history of publication of newspapers, a new weekly news magazine entitled ‘Ganakantha’ was inaugurated here at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhavan on Friday. Deba Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner,Sonitpur said by launching the introductory issue of the newly published news magazine that ‘Ganakantha’ should march ahead with the responsibility to serve the interest of serious readers as well as the general readers by covering all the issues related to our heritage, culture, literature and socio-economic issues so as to build a enriched readers circle.
Purneswar Nath, retired professor of Darrang College said in the meeting held for the occasion that as of now the time is so challenging for publishing a newspaper. Gankantha should play a phoenix role,he added and hoped that the newspaper once in the days ahead will turn to the voice of people. Noted writer and playwright Aisharya Kakati in his speech urged the to make the newspaper a platform for creation of new writers and journalists. In his discourse Dr. Pranjit Hazarika, editor of the newspaper assured all that in the course of its journey the paper will always try to maintain credibility and neutrality in all aspects. Dr. Bhupen Saikia, noted writer and president Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha, Dr. Jyoti Kamal Hazarika,principal, Tezpur college and several others present in the meeting conducted by journalist Pulak Kumar Deka shared their views and lauded the efforts of raising such a newspaper from the historic city.
Publisher of the newspaper Kulen Bharali also said that demand for printed newspapers is still felt in such a digital era since several thousands of different printed newspapers are found circulating in our areas. In his speech he requested cooperation of all sections in carrying out the journey. It is worth mentioning that after glorious existence of several news papers including Assam Banti, Mahajati,Agnigarh, Sadiniya Sambad, Saptahik Ba-Batori , luit etc. the Ganakantha appeared after a long gap in the city would draw the attention of the readers circle
