GUWAHATI, July 13: The NF Railway has undertaken various initiatives to enhance freight transportation and provide a better customer interface. In line with these efforts, several stations have been opened for handling inward and outward goods traffic during the month of June 2023, facilitating smoother transportation of diverse goods for different customer segments.
To improve customer interface and augment freight revenue, New Guwahati station (NGC) under the Lumding division has been opened for handling inward livestock to be transported via parcel vans, effective from June 26, 2023. Additionally, Mirza station under the Rangiya division has been authorised to function as an alternative goods terminal for both inward and outward goods to Azara station for a period of six months, starting from June 16, 2023.
As part of an experimental initiative, the Lumding division successfully loaded 200 packets of locally grown pineapples, in high demand across various parts of the country, onto the Tejas Rajdhani Express for transportation from Dharmanagar in Tripura to New Delhi in June 2023.
Furthermore, on June 12, 2023, the Tinsukia division conducted a meeting with merchants from the Lakwa, Tuli, Bhojo, and Namrup areas to explore the loading potential of coal and sand, aiming to enhance outward loading. A separate meeting with merchants from New Tinsukia and Talap was also held on June 28, 2023, to analyse the loading prospects of ballast and sand at the Tinsukia division.
The improvement of customer interface and the opening of new terminals are expected to increase the loading and unloading of freight trains, consequently leading to a significant growth in revenue for the NF Railway in the coming years.Â
