GUWAHATI, June 19:
NF Railway, in its efforts to maintain a steady supply of essential and other commodities, has witnessed a consistent increase in freight unloading. In the month of May 2023 alone, a total of 1,131 freight carrying rakes were unloaded at NFR. Over the course of the financial year 2022-23, a total of 14,680 freight carrying rakes were unloaded, showcasing a commendable growth of 6.71 percent compared to the previous financial year 2021-22.
NF Railway has played a vital role in transporting various goods such as FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertiliser, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, POL tanks, containers, and other items. These goods were then efficiently unloaded at different goods sheds within the jurisdiction of NF Railway.
During May 2023, a total of 615 rakes of freight carrying trains were unloaded in Assam, out of which 299 were loaded with essential commodities. In addition, 98 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 18 in Nagaland, 2 in Manipur, 7 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 5 in Mizoram. Furthermore, 221 freight rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and 165 in Bihar within the jurisdiction of NF Railway.
The consistent transportation of essential and other commodities is crucial not only to meet the requirements of the general public but also to sustain local economic activities in all regions. The efficient execution of doubling works at important sections across NF Railway has contributed to increased inward and outward movement of freight traffic, facilitating the smooth flow of goods.
