JORHAT, Dec 30: Mukesh Jalan, owner of Sadguru Engineering & Allied Services Private Limited, was arrested by a Jorhat Police team from Guwahati in the early hours of Tuesday in connection with alleged financial irregularities and non-payment of dues to local subcontractors involved in the four-lane National Highway-715 project in the district.

According to police sources, the arrest followed the lodging of an FIR at the Teok Police Station by subcontractors who had supplied construction materials and labour for the project.

A case has been registered under Sections 316(5), 318(4), 351(3) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The complainants alleged that Sadguru Engineering & Allied Services Private Limited abandoned the project without completing the work and defaulted on payments amounting to around ₹4 crore.

They further claimed that despite several meetings held under the chairmanship of the District Commissioner, with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and company representatives, the issue remained unresolved and the dues were not cleared.
