GUWAHATI, Feb 13: NE Focus organised a dynamic gathering at the North East Tourism Conclave hosted at Nedfi House, Guwahati on Monday, with a robust agenda aimed at bolstering the tourism landscape of North East India. Sangeeta Saikia, the conclave organiser and editor of NE Focus, emphasised the paramount importance of tourism, stating, “Tourism is a significant concern.” The event delved into not just the promotion of tourism but also pertinent issues surrounding the industry.
Key discussions revolved around strategies for fostering tourism through environmental conservation, preservation of indigenous culinary and cultural traditions across various village communities, with the objective of transforming these locales into attractive tourist hubs. Saikia underscored the necessity for governmental initiatives to formulate comprehensive, long-term policies conducive to sustainable tourism development.
Distinguished attendees included Anil Orao, regional director of the Tourism Department, Government of India, Guwahati; Utpal Barua, chief airport officer at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport; Amitabh Dey, principal at the Institute of Hotel Management; Tridip Sharma, advisor at the Hotel and Restaurant Association; Swapna Medhi, lecturer in the Tourism department at Sonapur College; and Arisit Purkayastha, owner of Koyel Travels, who contributed as resource persons. The proceedings were skillfully moderated by Swapnanil Barua, Ranjit Das, and Mowsam Hazarika.
The conclave drew participation from numerous students and faculty members from institutions including Sonapur College, Pragjyotish College, and Cotton University, amplifying the collective engagement in shaping the future of tourism in the region.
