The Forest department personnel, in a swift response, rescued 21 of these storks on Friday and transferred them to the CWRC in Kaziranga.

Villagers who found the birds on the ground, with most of them deceased and a few still alive, speculated that they may have died either from the fall or due to lightning during the storm.

Concerned villagers provided water to the surviving storks and also alerted an NGO to assist.

On Friday, the Forest department personnel removed the carcasses of the deceased storks and ensured the safe transport of the rescued 21 birds to the CWRC at Kaziranga.
