Marking a crucial milestone in this endeavor, an MoU worth Rs 1.81 crore was formally signed between Power Grid Corporation and SMCH at the college’s conference hall on Monday. This collaboration aims to enhance medical infrastructure, improve patient care facilities, and equip the hospital with advanced healthcare amenities. The initiative reflects Powergrid’s proactive approach to addressing societal needs beyond its primary mandate of power transmission.

Speaking at the occasion, principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Dr Bhaskar Gupta, lauded the initiative and highlighted its significance for the region. “Healthcare is a fundamental right, and strengthening medical infrastructure is crucial to ensuring quality treatment reaches every patient. Powergrid’s support will significantly enhance our capacity to deliver better medical services, ultimately benefiting thousands in the Barak Valley and beyond,” he said.

Deputy general manager of Power Grid Corporation, Aninda Dev Laskar, echoed the sentiment, emphasising the organisation’s commitment to holistic development. “At Powergrid, we believe in driving progress not just through power transmission but also through meaningful contributions to society. This investment in healthcare is a step towards ensuring that people in remote areas have access to better medical facilities. Our responsibility extends beyond infrastructure; it is about empowering communities and fostering long-term growth,” he stated.

The event, attended by assistant commissioner and Branch officer (Health) Jonali Devi, joint director of health services, Dr Shibananda Roy, medical professionals, and dignitaries, underscored the collaborative spirit between corporate entities and public institutions in driving positive change. With the successful commencement of this project, Powergrid has once again demonstrated that responsible corporate leadership can bring tangible improvements to essential public services. As the initiative unfolds, it is set to leave a lasting impact on the healthcare landscape of Silchar and its surrounding regions, reaffirming the power of strategic CSR interventions in nation-building.
