GUWAHATI, Aug 29: Pijush Hazarika, the minister of Water Resources in Assam, conducted an inspection of villages that were inundated due to a breach in the Nonai river’s levee on the right side. The breach occurred on Monday night at the Duwariparar Janasewa area under the Sipajhar Assembly Constituency.
Upon receiving news of the incident, engineers, district administration officials, and representatives from the water resources department promptly assessed the situation. They reached the affected area on Tuesday morning to evaluate the extent of the damage and interacted with the local population.
The district commissioner has been instructed to provide necessary government assistance to all affected households and initiate the reconstruction of the river channel using tube dams, as directed by minister Pijush Hazarika.
During the inspection, minister Hazarika was accompanied by Paramananda Rajbongshi, MLA; district commissioner; superintendent of police; chief engineer of the water resources department; and other relevant officials.
