NAGAON, Nov 21: In the early hours of Tuesday, police fired on a suspected drugs mafia, identified as Hekmat Ali, at Nagaon Borghat bypass chariali. The incident occurred after the arrest of Ali, who was found in possession of suspected narcotics, including brown sugar, in the Samaguri Bajiagaon area on Monday afternoon.

A police team led by SDPO, Kaliabor, apprehended Ali and seized Rs 32,000 in cash along with his luxury car (registration number AS02AM 5097). Following Ali’s statement, the police were en route to Nagaon Borghat bypass to conduct another raid on a drugs dealer.

However, as the police vehicle reached Borghat bypass chariali, the arrested drugs mafia allegedly attacked the police personnel, attempting to escape. Faced with this situation, the police fired on Ali, injuring him in the right leg. He was immediately admitted to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital and later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. The incident unfolded as the police sought to control the situation during the arrest and prevent the escape of the suspected drugs offender.
