Preparatory meeting held for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, Kali Puja in Nagaon

NAGAON, Sept 27: A preparatory meeting was convened at the Conference hall of the District Commissioner’s Office in Nagaon to ensure a harmonious and eco-friendly celebration of the forthcoming Durga Puja and Kali Puja festivals in the district.

Additional district commissioner Lakshya Jyoti Daspresided over the meeting, which aimed to foster cooperation and coordination among stakeholders for the smooth conduct of these religious festivals.

The key issues addressed during the meeting included puja committees to submit applications for permission, along with necessary no-objection certificates from relevant departments. It was stressed that pandals must comply with pollution control guidelines and ensure the fitness of electricity connections.

Furthermore, rules governing the immersion of idols were discussed in detail to maintain order and safety during the ceremonies.

The meeting also focused on the installation of CCTV cameras in puja pandal sites to enhance security. Additionally, the importance of displaying anti-drug messages at the puja sites and implementing night guarding in pandals was discussed.

Lastly, officials from the pollution control board stressed the significance of environmentally friendly celebrations. This includes using biodegradable and natural materials in idol creation and avoiding the use of single-use plastic items.

The meeting brought together officials from various government departments, including Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) of Kaliabor Liza Talukdar, Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Jyoti Kalita, and representatives from puja committees in Nagaon. The objective is to ensure that the upcoming Durga Puja and Kali Puja celebrations are both peaceful and environmentally responsible.

This initiative reflects a growing awareness of environmental concerns during religious festivals, contributing to the broader effort to promote sustainability and reduce ecological impact.
