Guwahati, Dec 28: On January 12-19, 2024, the Karbi Youth Festival will celebrate its 50th Golden Jubilee at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, Diphu, in the Karbi Anglong district. This festival is not only a significant cultural event for the Karbi people of East and West Karbi Anglong districts in Assam but also holds the distinction of being the oldest ethnic festival in India. It has been a platform for showcasing the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Karbi community and has seen participation from various tribes and states across Northeastern India.
In a momentous announcement, President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the invitation to attend the Karbi Youth Festival in 2024 as the chief guest. President Murmu, who was sworn in as the 15th President of India on July 25, 2022, is known for her active engagement with cultural events and development initiatives, especially those that highlight the diverse ethnic fabric of India. Her presidency has been marked by several historic moments, including her being the first person from India’s tribal communities to be elected president, the youngest and the first individual born after India’s independence in 1947 to hold this esteemed position, and only the second woman after Pratibha Patil to serve as president.
The President’s presence at the Karbi Youth Festival is expected to bring national attention to the event and honor the cultural significance of the Karbi people. As the chief guest, President Murmu will be at the forefront of the ceremonial activities, which are integral to the festival’s tradition. Her participation is anticipated to lend credibility to the event and enhance the experience for all attendees.
President Murmu’s acceptance of the invitation is a testament to her commitment to celebrating India’s rich tribal heritage and supporting events that foster unity and cultural exchange among diverse communities. The 2024 Karbi Youth Festival is poised to be a grand celebration, further enriched by the honorable presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
