President Murmu accepts invitation to Karbi Youth Festival 2024, to grace event as chief guest

Guwahati, Dec 28: On January 12-19, 2024, the Karbi Youth Festival will celebrate its 50th Golden Jubilee at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, Diphu, in the Karbi Anglong district. This festival is not only a significant cultural event for the Karbi people of East and West Karbi Anglong districts in Assam but also holds the distinction of being the oldest ethnic festival in India. It has been a platform for showcasing the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Karbi community and has seen participation from various tribes and states across Northeastern India.

In a momentous announcement, President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the invitation to attend the Karbi Youth Festival in 2024 as the chief guest. President Murmu, who was sworn in as the 15th President of India on July 25, 2022, is known for her active engagement with cultural events and development initiatives, especially those that highlight the diverse ethnic fabric of India. Her presidency has been marked by several historic moments, including her being the first person from India’s tribal communities to be elected president, the youngest and the first individual born after India’s independence in 1947 to hold this esteemed position, and only the second woman after Pratibha Patil to serve as president.
