JORHAT, May 7: Former Jorhat Zila Parishad chairman of the Congress Putul Burahgohain on Saturday took charge as president of Jorhat district unit Congress in a ceremony held at the Congress Bhavan here.
Burahgohain, who was accorded a warm welcome by Gayan Bayan and district leaders and workers of the party, was an OSD to former chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
He assumed charge from the outgoing president Dip Gogoi, a former Lok Sabha MP of Kaliabar in the presence of current Kaliabar MP Gaurav Gogoi and APCC executive president Rana Goswami.
Putul Burahgohain, addressing the gathering on the occasion, said that he would work to strengthen his party at the grassroots and at every level in association with the workers and leaders.
He said that he would also highlight the problems of the state among the general people.
Rana Goswami, who also addressed the gathering, lambasted the present BJP led government stating that it had failed on all fronts.
Goswami said that it had come to power riding on the promise of decreasing the price of essential commodities, providing jobs and paying Rs 351 as daily wage to tea workers within three months of coming to power but had done nothing.
Goswami said that this government was only good at making false promises.
