Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flags off three new trains from Guwahati

‘These services are expected improve travel options for passengers across Assam and neighbouring areas

GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday flagged off three new trains from Guwahati railway station, said an official statement from NFR.

The three trains flagged off by Vaishnaw were Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, New Bongaigaon-Guwahati passenger train and Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express.

Vaishnaw, who is also the Union minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology virtually, inaugurated the Tetelia road overbridge at Dispur.

“In line with Honorable Prime Minister’s vision to improve rail connectivity, three new trains were flagged off and a new Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Tetelia station yard constructed by Northeast Frontier Railway was dedicated to the nation today from Guwahati,” the statement from NFR read.

During the flagging off ceremony the railway minister said that these services are expected to bolster regional connectivity and improve travel options for passengers across Assam and neighbouring areas.

Besides Vaishnaw, Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and minister of state for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita were also present on the occasion.

As per the statement, a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between NIELET and Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd and exchanged in presence of the ministers present on the occasion. National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) a premier institution under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has been recognised as a Deemed to Be University under distinct category by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Speaking on the occasion, Vaishnaw said that more than 5 times yearly budgetary allocation has been increased for railway infrastructure development work in the Northeast region for the current year in comparison to the period 2009-14.

General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) Arun Kumar Choudhary with senior officials of Headquarter and Divisions, Local MP/MLAs and other dignitaries were also present during program.
