Remembering Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 12th death anniv: Tributes across Sonitpur district

TEZPUR, Nov 5: On the occasion of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s 12th death anniversary, Sonitpur district witnessed numerous commemorative events honoring the legendary music maestro and cultural icon.

The Tezpur Sahitya Sabha organised a memorial program, commencing with the lighting of a lantern at Dr Hazarika’s portrait. Eminent personalities, including actress Krishna Das Nath, actor Arun Nath, and former president of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Dr Suresh Kumar Arjya, paid floral tributes to the late musician. Various organizations and individuals, such as Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha, echoed the sentiment by highlighting Dr Hazarika’s invaluable contributions to Assamese culture and society.

Throughout the district, different socio-cultural and national organizations conducted programs. Balipara Sahitya Sabha unveiled a bust of the music legend, while Kalabhumi Baan Theatre hosted a commemorative event in conjunction with the Sonitpur district administration. Additionally, the All Assam chorus competition, focused on Bhupendra Sangeet, drew participation from over 30 groups and witnessed the judging of renowned artists like JP Das and Shanta Uzir.

Puthimari residents, Asam Chatra Parishad, Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha at Borchala, and Darrang College Girls Hostel Alumni Conference, among others, orchestrated various programs to honor the memory and legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The events showcased a collective reverence and appreciation for Dr Hazarika’s contributions, preserving his legacy and influence on Assamese culture.
