BISWANATH CHARIALI, April 17: Piyar Ali, a retired professor of Chatia College and a resident of Saraijania village under Sootea police station was knocked down by a train in the wee hours this morning near the railway crossing located at Saraijania.
He was 61. According to information, Ali went out for his regular morning walk but didn’t return home in time. When the family members traced his whereabouts in the surrounding areas, the body was found near the railway line.

According to information received from the Sootea police source, the body was spotted nearly the railway line this morning and a note was also recovered from his home. The note was addressed to the chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika requesting the both to make early arrangements for family pension to his son and daughter as well. He further wrote that his son and daughter were by no means responsible for his death. Police doubted it was a case of suicide.
An amiable and generous Ali was closely associated with many socio-cultural organisations of the greater Sootea area. His untimely and unexpected death was widely mourned here. The Railway police had sent the body for postmortem.
